Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons for hiking. The forests are adorned with vibrant colors, the trails regain their tranquility, and the bright sunlight transforms the landscapes. There’s no need to leave the Paris region to enjoy it. With 45 nature hikes around Paris, published in the Voyages Gallimard collection, Marine Loisy and Clément Lhommeau invite you to discover an unknown part of Île-de-France, between forests, valleys, ancient villages, and rivers. All of this without a car, simply with a Navigo pass.

Another Ile-de-France, far from the asphalt

It’s often forgotten, but there are some 8,000 kilometers of marked trails in Île-de-France. That’s enough to satisfy the most curious hikers. The authors take us through rocky chaos from Fontainebleau to the chalk cliffs of the Seine valley, from the peaceful banks of the Loing to the verdant landscapes of the Chevreuse valley. Oaks and charm, medieval castles, waterways and villages dot these routes that reveal a region very different from the congestion and sprawling suburbs. For each route, the authors indicate a restaurant and must-see visits.

45 routes to walk at your own pace

You don’t need to be an experienced hiker to start out. The guide offers itineraries ranging from a few hours to several days, suitable for different levels of fitness. Its special feature? The routes are accessible by public transport, via metro, RER or Transilien, without the need to bring your car. Each hike is accompanied by a QR code that allows you to download the detailed route. Walking times and elevation changes are indicated for each circuit. The authors also suggest extending some of the outings with outdoor activities, from canoeing to climbing, not to mention camping at the farm.

Fifteen years of discoveries along the trails

Behind this guide are two passionate walkers: Marine Loisy and Clément Lhommeau, founders of the Helloways platform, dedicated, among other things, to accessible hiking without a car. Their selection is the result of more than fifteen years of exploration in the Île-de-France region. Published in April 2026, this new edition, revised and expanded, offers five additional routes and updated itineraries. An invitation to rediscover your immediate surroundings, to take the time to observe the landscapes and to realize that adventure sometimes begins at the terminus of a RER line.
