Lupins (Lupinus nootkatensis) in flower enchant the Icelandic landscape in June and July. This plant is not endemic to Iceland. They were introduced from Alaska in 1945 by the Icelandic Water and Forestry Service, with the aim of halting the desertification of certain areas and combating soil erosion, particularly in the interior of Iceland.
